Enlarged chewing muscle & angular face
Botox helps here
What can you do about a square face? What is masseter hypertrophy?
The so-called master muscle is the large chewing muscle. For various reasons, this muscle can become thicker – similar to the biceps muscle through bodybuilding. The medical term for this is masseter hypertrophy – the enlargement of the masseter muscle.

Causes of masseter hypertrophy
The cause is an excessive tensing of this muscle, which leads to a thickening and subsequently to a widening of the jaw.
In addition to a congenital anatomical feature, teeth grinding (bruxism) or clenching of the teeth at night are the main causes of the widening of the chewing muscle.
Consequences of masseter hypertrophy
Teeth grinding can not only damage the teeth, but can also lead to chronic pain in the jaw angle, headaches and sleep disorders.
It can also lead to undesirable changes in the shape of the face: the face widens, which is not aesthetically pleasing, especially in women – in fact, 12 percent of adults have this problem and suffer from a square face!
The face often appears broad and disproportionate.
The treatment of chewing muscle enlargement with Dr. Barbara Franz in Vienna
In addition to a visit to the dentist or oral surgeon, there is a still virtually unknown, new method of treating the cause of the problem: treatment with botulinum toxin, which is injected directly and relatively easily into the muscle responsible.
This reduces muscle activity without restricting the patient’s ability to chew.
