THE CO2 laser
The gold standard among lasers
Improve the appearance of your skin with the fractional CO2 laser
The CO2 laser can not only be used to remove protruding “skin tags”, benign moles or warts ablate. It is particularly important when it comes to restructuring the facial skin, the skin, the Gold standard in the area of pigment spots, wrinkles and scars. The principle of the laser is vaporization, which means that the skin is not burned, but gently vaporized cell layer by cell layer.
What we always notice with the CO2 laser is a tightening of the skin, the thermal energy of the laser alone tightens the skin – with an immediate effect. You can actually see this immediately after the treatment, but about two to three months later there is another tightening process called collagen neogenesis . This means that the body is stimulated by the laser treatment alone to tighten itself and form new collagen fibers.
Unsightly wrinkles, especially on the face, can be treated effectively with the CO2 laser.

With the fractionated CO2 laser, it is possible to permanently remove pigment spots as the pigment is “thinned out”. As a subtle side effect, the skin is tightened at the same time as collagen production is stimulated by the laser.

What is CO2 laser treatment?
CO2 laser treatment is a procedure in which the outer layer of skin is removed with a concentrated beam of light to treat scars, wrinkles, sun damage, age spots or other irregularities . The procedure can also be used to reduce the size of warts and moles.
Above all, the treatment contributes to skin renewal and stimulates collagen production in the skin.

How does the laser treatment work?
The patient usually arrives at the practice 30 minutes before the appointment. He/she is then prepared with a local anesthetic ointment so that the treatment is as comfortable as possible. The treatment takes about five to fifteen minutes, depending on the indication and the extent of the affected area. During the treatment, the patient may feel a slight burning sensation on the skin – but this is completely normal. At the end of the treatment, the patient is given an antioxidant serum or a hyaluronic acid mask and is advised to apply an antibacterial ointment several times a day for a few days and to use sun protection factor 50.
After the skin treatment, you may feel as if you have a slight sunburn. However, this will subside within a few days. You may also notice a slight swelling in the treated area for a day or two after the treatment. As the new skin begins to grow and replace the dead tissue, scaling may occur. This is a good sign that the healing process has begun and new skin substances are being formed. Depending on the intensity of the laser treatment, the healing process can take different lengths of time. To ensure a smooth and efficient regeneration process , we recommend that you apply an ointment to speed up the healing process and provide immediate relief to the affected area.
Depending on the intensity of the treatment and the size of the treated area, the above-mentioned after-effects may vary. Allow for a downtime of approx. 3-7 days if you find the cosmetic effects disturbing shortly after the treatment.
You may notice the first signs of skin renewal immediately after the treatment. However, the actual, final effects of the treatment are only visible after a few weeks. Treatment with the fractionated CO2 laser is permanent, but the results may vary depending on your individual lifestyle (smoking, diet, sun).
What do I need to consider after treatment with the CO2 laser?
After a CO2 laser treatment, you should follow your doctor’s instructions to ensure optimal healing and recovery. This includes avoiding direct sunlight and using gentle cleansers and moisturizers on the treated area. You should also protect the treated area from sun exposure by applying a broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. You may also need to apply an antibiotic ointment or cream to prevent infection and promote healing. It is important that you discuss a post-procedure care plan with your doctor before the procedure to minimize risks and optimize results.

How long does the result last?
The results can last up to several years, depending on how well you look after your skin after treatment and how much sunlight it is exposed to. In some cases, further treatments may be required to achieve the desired result.
How long does the treatment with the CO2 laser take?
Depending on the area to be treated, this method of skin rejuvenation and skin tightening takes between five and fifteen minutes. You should come to my practice at least 30 minutes before your appointment, as a local anesthetic cream is applied before the treatment.
What are the advantages of treatment with the CO2 laser?
CO2 laser treatment can improve skin texture, reduce the appearance of wrinkles and age spots and help treat a variety of skin conditions . It is also minimally invasive, which means that the risks of this procedure are very low. In addition, the downtime is relatively short compared to other treatments.
Another great advantage of this treatment is the long-lasting result for my patients. The treatment also promotes skin regeneration and stimulates the body’s own collagen production.
The result: wrinkles, scars and irregularities disappear, while the skin structure becomes firm yet soft!
Is treatment with the CO2 laser painful?
CO2 laser treatment is largely painless, although some people may feel heat or a slight burning sensation on the skin during the procedure. Sensitivity and pain may also occur in the hours following treatment – similar to sunburn. Itching is common during the healing process, but this can be alleviated with anti-inflammatory creams and ointments.

What side effects can occur during treatment with the CO2 laser?
As this technique for wrinkle treatment and skin rejuvenation is a minimally invasive procedure, almost no side effects are to be expected
What can be treated with the CO2 laser?
In addition to treating wrinkles and removing pigmentation spots, scars (such as acne scars), sun damage, milia and large-pored skin can also be treated.
How many treatments with the CO2 laser are required?
The first results are already noticeable after the first treatment – the complexion improves and appears with a fresh and youthful glow. Depending on the indication and size of the treated area, further treatments may be necessary. Dr. Barbara Franz will create a therapy concept with you so that you can benefit from the long-term success of the treatment!
When should CO2 laser treatment not be carried out?
We recommend avoiding intensive sunbathing and visits to the solarium for a few weeks before the treatment, as the CO2 laser should ideally be used on untanned skin.
