Teeth grinding – Botox helps here!

Botox helps here

Causes of teeth grinding

The so-called master muscle is the large chewing muscle. For various reasons, this muscle can become thicker – similar to the biceps muscle through bodybuilding. The medical term for this is masseter hypertrophy – the enlargement of the masseter muscle.

Causes of teeth grinding

Teeth grinding is understood to be a conscious or unconscious state of tension, sometimes as a result of misalignment of the teeth or the temporomandibular joint. Teeth grinding puts high pressure on the teeth, sometimes up to 10 times the normal amount.

Consequences of the bruximus

It is not only the tooth that suffers, teeth grinding also damages the tooth neck, tooth roots, jaw bone, chewing muscle and cervical spine.
Bruxism can also cause tinnitus and sleep disorders – and even general exhaustion.
This clinical picture can lead to severe stress for both the person affected and those around them and should always be treated.

Therapy of bruxism

A completely new, simple method of treatment is a still largely unknown method – an injection against teeth grinding: BOTOX. You should also consult your dentist and, if necessary, a psychotherapist.

Botox against teeth grinding

Botox works by dampening the tense jaw muscles, but the normal chewing muscles are not affected.
The Botox expert Dr. Franz injects the agent specifically where we want to bring about a slight “relaxation” of the chewing muscles – directly into the crunching muscle, the effect is somewhat delayed compared to Botox treatments for wrinkles (after about 4 weeks as a rule) and lasts 3-6 months.

Risks of bruxism therapy with Botox

The therapy only takes about 15 minutes and is completely low-risk, provided it is carried out by a specialist.

Costs of bruxism therapy with Botox

Treatment is usually carried out twice a year and the costs are not covered by statutory health insurance.
Since the jaw muscle varies in strength from person to person, costs of between €400-600 must be expected.
